Título
Minimum Rim Width and Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness in Coincident Clinical and Automated Optic Disc Boundaries.
Objetivo
To evaluate the relationship between correspondent Minimum Rim Width (MRW) and circumpapillary Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer (cpRNFL) thicknesses in eyes with coincident clinical and Bruch's membrane opening (BMO) demarcation of the Optic Nerve Head (ONH) boundaries, determined by the spectral-domain Optical Coherence Tomography (sdOCT).
Método
Twenty-two eyes of 11 healthy subjects (53.2 ± 19.6 years old; spherical equivalent: -0.3 ± 2.9 D) underwent sdOCT examination (Spectralis, Heidelberg Engineering, Germany). The study included all 48 sdOCT pairs of scans (MRW, and 3.5 mm cpRNFL values) from eyes with coincident BMO and clinical ONH boundaries' demarcation. The normalized differences between the paired values were plotted as a standard 360-degree polar curve.
Resultado
Eyes with coincident ONH boundaries delimitation showed lower normalized difference in the temporal Garway-Heath sector. A standard 360-degrees polar curve centered at the ONH was constructed and presented low dispersion values (95% IC: 5.1 to 7.24 um; Figure 1).
Conclusão
The standard 360-degree curve of the relationship between MRW and cpRNFL in eyes with coincident BMO- and clinical-based ONH delimitation presents a robust mean value and clinically acceptable variance. This information may be used as a reliable tool for future studies involving the investigation of eyes with discrepant BMO- and clinical-based ONH boundaries.
